A World Of Change With Education At It’s Center
Education continues to be drastically changed because of the internet and other devices. One in four college students were enrolled in at least 1 online class in the fall of 2009. E-learning, or online classes, is much better to the environment as well as the economy. Not only do students pay much less for their tuition, they also spend less on transportation costs and supplies. At a conference a year ago Bill Gates stated that within the next several years universities will practically be worthless given that the best lectures and presentations will be online.
Khan Academy, which supplies “a free world-class education for anyone anywhere,” even acquired funding from Bill Gates. Khan Academy has over 2,100 video lessons that cover anything from topics like simple algerbra to amortization. Where there is a will to learn, there is also a way; Khan Academy is exactly that. Financial resources are becoming less important whereas time and access to internet are all anyone would need to learn important and practical information. While it can be a powerful and destructive force to society and our planet, the internet is helping bring to pass great advances in education and instruction. There is also funding for school programs available for individuals and minorities. Now more than ever, people are able to lift themselves out of poverty to become influential and important in their communities. Before, you were required to travel long distances to get access to the world’s best books and teachers but now they come to you. For this reason giving poorer children in 3rd world countries internet access has become extremely important. Eventually everyone will have the ability to get a quality education for almost no cost. In the early American colonial times, the only people who could get a quality education were those who had loads of money and power. A whole lot has changed since that time.
Along with the internet, tablets are also drastically changing the way we learn. As an alternative to big bulky textbooks students now have interactive ebooks that allow them to watch videos, play games and listen to audio clips. Rather than dealing with papers and broken pencils, students now have the ability to write, edit and send their assignments all wirelessly. During the past decade, education has changed more than during the entire last century. Unfortunately too few individuals are benefiting from this. Many people have access to these tools but they are simply lazy or they don’t know about them.
The future of education is a bright one. Every single day individuals have increasingly more access to learning tools that can help them gain more knowledge. Unfortunately people aren’t taking advantage of the opportunities they have access to. Classes online are taking over, not just as a result of flexibility they give students but also for their environmental and economic influences.
